This is my first year seeing you at FLARF and I have never laughed so hard in years! I bought the DVD/CD combo, laughed all the way home listening to the CD and then laughed all over again at the DVD. You truly are the highlight of FLARF! In ending, I would just like to say....fa la, la la la la!

Lauderdale Lakes, FL USA - Tuesday, March, 9, 2010 at 19:48:55 (EST)

Hello and Huzzah! I had the pleasure of being situated across from Globe State at Bristol R.F. for the entire 8 weeks and saw your show 4 times a day. LOVED EACH and every one! Would like to see your next years calendar ASAP as I think that I could easily become a groupie/merchant/fan who exhibits at the same show that you perform at. Thanks for everything you do as well as your tireless work for RESCU!

Pawtucket, RI USA - Thursday, October, 29, 2009 at 22:48:25 (EST)
Phil, The last show at Bristol was too good...too funny. I can' believe Broon wore the underware 'til the very end. I don't think you 2 young assistants know how much fun they're having. At 23 or 24, John and were living in N. Hollywood and worked the Faire with some wacky friends. Good show. Jill

Racine, WI USA - Tuesday, September, 29, 2009 at 21:16:20 (EST)
I've been a big fan of yours for years, but sadly I haven't been able to catch a performance in quite some time. I think you should come to New York City and take Manhattan by storm!

New York, NY USA - Tuesday, September, 29, 2009 at 13:27:03 (EST)

Morgan Hill, CA USA - Monday, September, 14, 2009 at 20:19:17 (EST)
Moonie.... Wow, I was searching for a customer of mine and his name came up under your site here and the funny thing was...my daughter was saying last Friday when she said she wanted to take her boyfirend to the Ren Faire in Gilroy and asked me when it was coming and I told her to look it up on line and so she did and she then said...I only really want to go to see moonie & broone...Which she has seen every year since it opened in Gilroy... Small world! We love your show and always have a great time at the faire!

Boulder Creek, CA USA - Tuesday, September, 8, 2009 at 21:44:52 (EST)
Yep, for the tenth year (I THINK, though I've lost track) I laughed my head off. You were over the top on Labor Day! So you dropped a couple balls - what guy hasn't? It just made it funnier. You have a rowdy crowd of followers now - congrats! Next year, pick me to do the paper rose bit...

Berwyn, IL USA - Tuesday, September, 8, 2009 at 19:00:37 (EST)

Loved your show at the Bristol Faire again this year! Always the highlight of my visit :-) You did an aweful lot of yelling at the guy sitting next to me at 1:30 show on Sunday (which doesn't happen very often) and made it that much more funny! "it's not a good idea to piss off a guy who's already dressed for prison!!!" bwaahaaaaa! thanks for the laughs :-)

Hi Moonie! I see you every year at the Southern California Renaissance Faire and it is truly a highlight of the day. My boyfriend, on his very first visit to this fair, was actually one of your tightrope volunteers and he loved it. I have to say that I am a huge fan of your songs, (having been given the two Cds you have when I volunteered for the Moonie and Broon show) and that I sing along to "A Pickle Named Dave" and "Mr. Anathama" all the time. Thank you for all the laughs and I cannot wait to see you again next year. Lots of love!

Hi Moonie! It was so great seeing you at the Faire this past weekend! Your shows were absolutely hilarious as always. I was happy to hear that you remembered me from the SoCal Faire earlier this year haha. I gave Broon a drawing that I made of him, but I'm planning on making one for you too! :) As I'm originally from the SoCal area, I hope to see you and Broon at Burbank this winter! At least I hope I will? Anyways, take care, and I can't wait to see you again!

This man Moonie has a gift. We saw him again (5th time) @ Bristol and laughed just as hard as the first. Amazing talent, facial expressions that need no words and a genuine feel for what is hilariously funny. I thanked him after the show for making me and my wife laugh until we cried. The world's a mess but Moonie (Phil) is a class act and just as funny as hell! Keep it up & bring it back...

I couldn't get this to post on the Moonie and Broon website, so I will post it here instead. I wanted to say that I love how you work so well together onstage. You appear to be the best of friends, and it really comes thru during your shows. Apart; you are both hilarious with your different styles, but combined….well…you know, that laugh where tears roll down your face, but no sounds come out except an occasional breath that sounds like a honk? I don’t know if that has a name, but when it happens to me,I feel great afterwards-even tho’ my tummy hurts from laughing so hard. I just caught the “double tounge transfer” on YouTube and nearly spit out my iced tea when Moonie licked the scenery after tongues apparently touched! :P Hope to see you soon at Bristol for another good belly laugh! Love ya both! Tanya

Hi Moonie! My husband and I saw you for the first time this year at the So Cal Ren Faire on opening day. You pulled me out of the audience and made a rose for me. I still have it. :o) We had a great time and I laughed so much I cried. It isn't often that you come across people that make an impression on you, but you have done that to me. I enjoyed your show so much, that I insisted we go back to see you again before the Ren Faire closed for the season. You are now among our favorites at the fair along with the boys from Sound and Fury and the Bold and Stupid Men. Love what you do and I wish you and your family the best always. God bless.

Philip/MooNiE/Mr. Johnson-

I have been attending the Illinois Shakespeare Festival since I was 9. I have to admit the first time my mother had to drag me, but ever since I have been in love with theatre. I'm now a sophomore in college and this past weekend I went up to Chicago for the Non-Equity auditions. I just wanted to thank you for doing what you do, because you make me want to be a better actor. Ever since I saw you and Rebecca do "The Taming of the Shrew" in 2000, I knew that I was hooked... on acting, Shakespeare, and great performances. So thanks again.

All my best,
Megan

Hey there,
I came to see you what seems like a million years ago (and in the cyber world it would be) 2002 in San Jose at a Ren Faire.
I still get your emails and constantly wonder when you are gonna come to my side of the world.
Any plans for visiting New Zealand? I am sure you would have a blast! I know I would ;)

OMG you're HAWT!I've been a fan for years, and frankly you could find me at the end of everyday in So. CA at the Moonie and Broon stage. I heard you (Moonie) had played Joe Pitt in angels in America, unfortunatley I never saw an on stage preformance, but this compeled me to look for information on the net due to the overwhelming good reviews I heard about it. Low and behold I stumbled across some of your early photos; amd WOW. I must say you have always been a very Atracttive specimen or the male gender (you and Broon both) but yeah now I really do wish I had been born a few years earlier. Beyond that Love your work! You always put on such a great show and you are so ingrained in the community! Please keep up the good work. Love and Kisses form the Vixen.

Hey Moonie! Caught you and Broon at the Colony this past weekend. Will we ever see Broon "strung" out again? Songs are cool but I still like "classic" Moonie the best. But I can see him at the Ren Faire...

I want to thank you for making me look good (because yes it's about me here, isn't it?). I pimped you guys so hard you would have thought I was getting a % of the gross (yeah that was LA humor). 9 friends and family along for the ride last Saturday. If you guys had stunk I would have never heard the end of it but as it was, they too were left exhausted from all the laughter. Several vigins in the group, so the legend grows.

For those of you reading this that are not Phil: do YOURSELF a favor: share these guys with your family and friends. They all don't laugh enough anyway and when you take them to see Moonie and Broon, everyone leaves happy and they love you for sharing the gift these guys have. "The most wasted of all days is one without laughter." ~e.e. cummings So don't make it all about you, share!

I was one of those ones who stood in back and watched the show from a safe distance. An insisting pirate referred to your show as one of the ones who was actually funny around there. "Watch him. Sit down. It's worth it." I hesitated still, until the whistling bid of 'come closer' came, and my friend and I knew if we didn't, we'd be targetted, so we sat three haystack rows from the front.

From the unusual humor itself, to the fact that my boyfriend was dragged up onstage, I have never laughed so hard in my life at a performance. For this, I applaud you. For the laughter you bring to the world, I thank you. To those who scorn for lack of replies to these forums.. You are wrongly mistaken. There are replies to our words.. You simply have to show up to 'hear' them.

Never since the days of Harpo Marx has pantomime been so brilliantly and cleverly employed upon the stage. MooNiE the Magnif'Cent manages to continuously cripple his audiences with laughter through the use of whistles and gestures, whether he is sending Morse code to a few audience members who haven’t realized that the show has begun or he’s explaining to a “volunteer” what they are to do. And his talents do not end there, for he can amaze and dazzle his audiences by juggling, ropewalking, or making a hat dance and flip through the air with grace and style (even when he drops it).

But, unlike many pantomimes, MooNiE succeeds in the realm of clever verbal comedy and song writing as well. When teamed up with fellow stage performer, the equally gifted comedian BrooN, the hilarity and insanity are more than doubled, putting the audience in a boundless series of full belly-laughs capable of making one’s sides and jaw sore for days after. With every show, these two vaudevillians prove themselves to be in a class of their own; for who else could manage to turn twelve ordinary boxes into a wealth of comic improvisation equal to that of the great Buster Keaton?

To all of you out there who are still contemplating whether to see MooNiE’s show or not, I deeply urge you to go and stock-up on mirth; you will not be disappointed!

MooNIE! I am a Chicago Native, but I live in Taos, NM now. I was back home for a wedding, and I took my boyfrind to the Renaissance Faire. He's one of those LA type actors. I was talking you up something fierce, "You gotta see this guy, oh man, he is so great - he doesn't even speak and he kills! I just love him!" I am sure he cottoned on that I had a tiny crush on you - a few years ago, I was the girl on stage with the flower that you kissed. I'm sure you remember me. Anyway, I was slightly concerned about going to the faire, for now I'm sober - and going to the faire sober is about as proposterous as going to a wedding sober. Well, the wedding was lame, but the performance killed as usual, even without a drop of whiskey. My 6"4, 230 lb. actor boyfriend liked you so much, he didn't break your legs over my teeny crush. Rock on! If youre ever in New Mexico . . .

Hey Moonie, or should I say Philip. as I only recently found out your given name. My wife Lesa and I have been going to Bristol Since 1994. The first time that we saw you was on Bessie's harbor stage. ( where the washing well wenches are now) We and all are friends love your show so very much. However we have only recently FINALY caught your show that you do with Broon. I don't think I have ever laughed so hard in my life. I know you have a lot of fans and don't know us by names but know this, We have been watching you and Broon for a long time and feel that you are almost like family, our harts go out to both of you when we hear of your tragedies. We love you Guys and whish you the best.

Hey Moonie/Phil- I saw your show for the first time on Sunday, the 21st, and am still laughing. I want you to know how deeply grateful I am, that you were blessed with such a talent, and comical genius to do your show. The only hope that I have, is that you make it big...and make lots of money. You deserve to have your own show, and show the world just how great you are. Any chance of hiring you for a show some time? Lots of love to you, sir!!!

Hi Moonie, thanks for the kiss this last Saturday (Aug. 20th) while on stage with you during your afternoon show. You made my day & gave me a memory I won't soon forget! Ya know, it took me a while to figure out how you knew my name though... all I can say is that you are very observant! LOL! Anyway, I preserved your napkin rose & I promise I will work on mine! Thank you for everything. You're the best ;)

Hey Moonie,
I just wanted to say that you put on a great show at the Bristol fair. This was my thrird year back and it was my girlfriend's first year there. just to let you know, she loved the show. we tried to make it back for the duo show of you and broon. but that didn't work out too well. I was tempted into buying a dagger. so we missed your duo. but hey, great stuff. hopr to see you again very soon or at next year's fair.

Hey, great show today at the Ren Faire in Bristol, WI. It's probably been 6-7 years since I've been, but you were there back then and even got me onstage. This year, you chose the guy sitting next to me. I thought we had something special...?JK.

Funny, funny stuff - my 10 year old had us stay for your next show she liked you so much. I think I got some good pictures, in case you'd like copies - drop me a line.

Hello Phillip, I have just seen all 3 plays at the Illinois Shakespeare Festival in Bloomington. I've only missed ONE year in all the years you've been performing. I'm also a friend of Rebecca MacLean, (our daughters go to school together). I miss seeing you and her perform together. This year's performaces are wonderful, loved you and Ben Werling in MacBeth! (heck, I just plain love Ben, wish I could meet him!) I wish you and yours the best of luck in the year!

Hope to see you next yearin Bloomington!!!

I just wanted to say that i saw you.... Let's see I think it was... either this last faire or the faire before that...

Anywho, It was at Hollister and I saw your little concert after hours. When everyone is not dressed up in costume and unreconnizable.

I thought your songs were soooooo funny. My older sister has your tape. I love 'herb and emma'.

Also I wish you and the rest of the r.e.s.c.u. crew the very best of success. It would be absolutly wonderful if the renaissance faire could be that self-sustaining and most diffently a great representative for other festivals.

I bought a little ribbon, and have been answering questions for people on the streets who ask where i got it. (To be honest most people think it's for AIDS or D.A.R.E.) You should make the ribbon green or maybe 'coral'. Or grab some knitters with extra free time and have then make little wrist bands with the letters 'R.E.S.C.U.' or something. I'm sure wrist bands are an old version of all those rubberband bracelets that say "hope" or "one".

Anyhow I hope that my job will give me a weekend off so I can see MooNiE again or else I could just cross my fingers and hope that MooNiE and Broon will do another Walnut Creek show ....psssst. that's not so expensive, maybe?

Enjoyed having you visit our group's campfire and sharing your polar bear song besides all the others. We howled with laughter and chuckled long into the night. I believe everyone enjoyed your shows for the two week-ends and even me seeing it over the years, its certainly enjoyable.... You should take the kid up on changing your name or having an alter ego, "Smoothie, Smoothie." juggle blenders:) We will see you next year, and we are waiting for your dvd to come out. We just saw your show agin this weekend at the Ren faire in Raleigh NC. I have to say i think you are great. My wife took my to see you act back in 04, and i have been an addict ever since. We stayed up at the white flower stage all day just to catch every show you did. You were even nice enough to talk to us after the show, thanks! Wanted to know if you were interested in me talking to my friend who does owns a production company, see what he charges? Let me know, and if you ever do make a DVD and Cd combo set , I will buy it! You are the funniest performer i have ever seen at the faires. Hugs to you and the family

I just attended my first RenFaire this weekend at Raleigh NC and your act was the hightlight of the Faire. Physical comedy in the great tradition of Buster Keaton, Red Skelton, and Emmett Kelly. Impeccable Timing !!!!! You could produce more laughs with a simple facial expression than most comics can generate with a 3-minute joke. I ended up catching your show 3 times at the White Flower stage and each one was just a enjoyable as the first because of your interactions with audience members. Hope to see your show again.....

Hey phil, or do you want me to call you philip? I love your website. I'm planning on seeing you at the dean lesher theater. I'll admit I haven't gotten the ticket yet, emphasis on YET. I hope you plan on going to southern cal faire...santa barbera is it? I don't know exactly, there are so many faires here and there that it's hard to know which one's go where. I've been to your other website, moonieandbroon.com. It's real neato. I tried going to broon's but his is being temperamental and won't be nice to me, much like the real broon. Don't get me wrong, I like him too, otherwise I wouldn't be trying to get on his web page to begin with.I know his web page says some kind of non-sensical ramblings of 'learning to use a computer properly and not holding onto the past' or someother kind of mumbo jumbo, well, I hate to sound like my mother, but just 'cause you're the first to accuse someone of something doesn't make it so. Blah, don't listen to me. I'll admit I'm just mad that I can't go on broon's website so that I can worship him more appropriately according to my obsession.

I am really dissapointed in "Abby's" comments. If she was a true fan, she would know that both Moonie and Broon are deeply grateful of everyone who see's their show and gives money, comments on the site, ect...just because they don't have time to personnaly thank every individual, does not mean they don't care. They dont know me personally, but they talk to me at the california shows, and thats great..with so many people out there, its all I expect, and you should do the same...so lay off..they care about us all!! THis is the first time I have ever written to my own guestbook. I write in response to the complaint about lack of gratitude. I am writing about Abby's concerns. First of all I would like to apologize to her or anyone who may have thought that I lack gratitude about the support I receive from friends and fans who see me perform. Nothing could be further from the truth. I make my living from the kindness of those who see me perform and I never, ever take that for granted. I always spend time after my show chatting with whomever wants to talk. I thank every single person who puts money in my hat. I explained hundreds and hundreds of times to whomever asked how Broon was and went into detail most of the time about his condition. I travel avery week to some part of the country spending 4 days to do this and then get home to spend time with my family. I appreciate everyone who signs onto my website, a site I have precious little time to monitor due to an extreme lack of technical savvy and time limitations. People who I have met during a Faire day, that I now consider dear to me,number in the hundreds, maybe thousands. I try to remember peoples names, and am successful the majority of the time, because I do care. I am on the board of The RESCU Foundation, a non-profit foundation set up to aid People who have experienced extreme financial difficulty due to a medical situation. I passed the hat for Broon right after his fall and after my last show that same day reflexively as I knew he would be out of work for a long time. I thanked people then and am still grateful for that moment. As for Broon, I know how he feels and while I know how deeply he feels, I will let him respond on his site and our site as he monitors both of those sites. I am a technical clutz as Broon will often kid me about during our shows. Mostly, I am sorry that any lack of communication on our part would be interpreted as a lack of gratitude. I am grateful for all of you who I know and love through my work as MooNiE and all of your concern and generosity not only toward Broon but to my family during our daughters' illness. I think most people know these things, but to those who do not know, I thank you again. Sincerely, Philip Earl Johnson MooNiE

I know it has nothing to do with me, but I just had to comment on the previous thread. I'm not quite clear on whether it was directed at MooNiE of BrooN, but as a loyal fan, I can honestly say that they DO give back. Sure, maybe they don't have time to respond to every single post that thanks them for all they do to brighten people's lives....but have you realized how MANY there are? Also, many of those threads aren't just thanking them for their act, but rather, thanking them for being such kind and wonderful people. Even through extreme adversity, MooNiE and BrooN do all they can to still bring smiles to people's faces and they are two of the most amazing people you could meet. And this is a LIVING for them! Meaning they travel all over to make this happen and still have to make time for family/ friends. So..... if they don't respond to every post, try not to take it personally. Have you ever bothered to try to talk to either of them? If you did, you would realize what a misjudge of character you have been. I personally use MooNiE's guestbook as a way to thank him for all the happy moments he's brought me and I don't need him to respond to know that he is a caring person that appreciates his fans. Love you MooNiE.....See you at Southern!! :)

I am very disappointed in the management of your websites. I have been reading the posts on all three boards and I have not seen one post by either one of you thanking your fans for the concerns and notes of cheer sent Broon's way after he fell at Bristol. I am so disappointed in your lack of gratitude. There were many children at your show that were concerned for you. You ask people for cash when your show is over because that is how you make your living that's great. People came here and to the other sites because perhaps they support you by dropping cash everytime they see your show and perhaps because they truly enjoy who you are when you are acting. This isn't about your act this is about who you really are and your tremendous lack of gratitude towards those who wished you well and were truly concerned about the person. Your show is great you make us laugh every single time we see you and we drop cash because we appreciate the act. But, this my friend is very much a character flaw. I am so glad that you are well and performing again. I just wish you had the heart to thank those who thought enough of you to check in and make sure you were okay. This forum is for that purpose correct?

Hi Moonie!
We really enjoyed seeing you again at the faire on August 14th. I think I laughed even harder seeing it the second time. My family loved your act, and thought it was cool that I went to college with you. The photos we took came out very nice, Bradley and Stephanie said "Hey, he put bunny ears on our heads!" Very funny indeed. Thanks so much for taking us away from reality for a little while and helping us have so much fun. I just saw the message regarding Broon and hope he is back on his feet very soon. We were sorry to have missed his show. We'll have to wait until next summer. My best to you and your family.

I saw Moonie about a month ago at the Bristol fair. OMG, I don't think I've laughed so hard before. The best part is that I saw the same show back to back. I laughed just as hard if not harder. Now that's comedy. One of my favorite parts would be.......Don't Screw up! I was gonna come back to the Fair on the 15th, one month after I went mainly for two reasons. 1) Buy some sharp stuff. lol 2) To see Moonie. I hope Brian get back on his feet soon so I can see the Moonie and Broon together.

Hi Moonie,
Well, it's been years since I've seen you perform. Having heard about your daughter, though, I felt compelled to express my condolences, being that laughter is a precious gift that I am grateful to have received from you. Thank you for continuing to bring smiles to the world.

Hi Moonie ~
Just scootin around your website and reading your guestbook, only to find out about your daughter's passing. I was so shocked and heart broken to learn about this and my prayers go out to you and all of your family about this loss. The laughter that you convey to others is good medicine, and I'm hoping and praying that all of the good thoughts of "Fairy Dust" & "Pixie Glue" that comes to you will help you through this trial in your lives. Looking forward to seeing you at the Northern California Faire, and will have a BIG HUG & BIG KISS for you!!! BTW - you were AWESOME

Peace & God Bless ~

I saw you at the Fair Sunday and you were really funny and I hope you make it to Letterman for you are as good as Gallagher (and funnier then Dillar). You should try for a HBO special or PBS special for I think you could handle it. yours HJB (the Spook)

Wow, this is a really awesome website. Anyway, thanks to power of google, i can tell you that you are really awesome. i admire you so much. I remember when you were in Taming of the Shrew at ISF two years ago or so. You were simply divine in that role. My mom remembers when you did green shows!^_^ so, being a native bloomington/normal gal, i had to say hi, and express the deep gratitude for making me laugh so hard i cried, and making me cry for Cyrano. your talent knows no bounds. I'll see ya on August 2nd hopefully. My sister said she wanted to see you for her birthday!!^_^

Just so you have a point of reference, I am the 'couldn't stop laughing at the pig' guy from ISF 2000...

Barb and I saw you in Cyrano last night, Friday, 7/23. We agree: You are a genius.

It's cool to see this other side of you, as Moonie is our main exposure to you.

We will be at 'Two Gents' on Sunday, July 25 and look forward to your performance. We may wait after to say hello, but, if we don't, we will see you at the Faire sometime in August and will definitely talk to you there.

Thanks for everything,

I am sorry to hear about your loss. You and your family are in my family's thoughts and prayers. Thank you for being strong and keeping on with the show, my own son loves watching you. He's only two, but very smart for his age, and he thinks you're the greatest.

Hi Phil! It sure was great to see you at the faire. I haven't laughed that hard in a long time! I am so impressed with what you have achieved in your acting career. I always thought you were very good in what you did at ISU. My husband and I are going to try to come see you in Cyrano down at ISU in August. If we aren't able to do it, we are definitely going to come see you at the faire again the second weekend in August. We have several family members who want to come too. I want you to know that my prayers go out to you and your family. I was so sad to hear of your daughters illness and passing. You are a very strong person to be able to continue to make people laugh when you have experienced so much pain. You are truly a blessing to the world. Take care, and I'll see you in the near future. Dear Moonie,
Our family has been catching your shows at Bristol Ren Faire for 3 years. The new member of our family (My Fiancee. You took his cigarette last year.) Has commented on how awesome you are and barely likes anything else about the Faire but goes to see you. I'm the one with the dark hair and ren dress that kisses you when I put money in your basket.(I'm sure i'm not the only one) We are impressed everytime we go and even though some of the act is always the same, you make us feel like children seeing it for the first time. My son wants to be just like you, and we are proud, cuz we are a family of clowns. No really we are clowns I'm not just saying that. We are sure that your talents go far beyond the moonie routine, but that is all that we've seen. Your talents are incredible. We love you and hope you are blessed. See you soon----Bianca Lopez, Brandon Pawlowski, and Jeremiah Cady.
